Dust Lands, Rebel Heart, is the sequel to Blood Red Road. Here is a synopsis of book one. “Saba lives in Silverlake, a wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms where her family scavenge from landfills left by the long-gone Wrecker civilization. After four cloaked horsemen kidnap her beloved twin brother Lugh, she teams up with daredevil Jack and the Free Hawks, a girl gang of Revolutionaries. Saba learns that she is a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Saba and her new friends stage a showdown that change the course of her civilization.” This sequel picks up right where book one leaves off. Jack is moving towards finding Molly Pratt, Ike’s girlfriend, in the Storm Belt. He has to deliver the news to her that Ike is dead. Another mystery is unfolding surrounding someone known as The Pathfinder. After the death of Vicar Pinch during the Pine Top Hill battle, this mystery person has laid claim that he can heal the earth. That is the word according to the Stewards. With a price on her head because she brought down a tyrant and saved her brother, Saba feels betrayed when she finds out that Jack has joined up with the Tonton’s. She is fighting ghosts from her past and a new enemy is on the rise. The news of Jack and the Tonton, is a heavy blow to her because she can’t believe that Jack would ever work with them. She has to decide if he is really betraying her or if this is his plan to attempt to destroy the Tonton from inside the group. Saba will have to find her inner warrior strength to survive. Author Moira Young has built on her existing characters and outdone herself on this exhilarating sequel. Readers will enjoy the changes the characters have transitioned to. The story arc is engaging as more characters are added along with more conflict and mystery. Parents will feel comfortable allowing their teens to read this series.
