In the house that monsters
built atop a lonely spooky hill there seems to be a lot of scary things going
on and it all starts with a little creepy crawly spider. All of the monsters
played a role in putting the house together and all of the monsters for some
strange reason are a bit afraid. What could it be that is so scary to a bunch
of monsters? Well, the mummy was shocked by the spider, the werewolf was upset by
a hammer, the skeleton was rattled by a chair, Frankie was terrified of a black
cat, the cat was scared of the bats, a zombie let out a scream, and a ghost let
out a boo! But that’s not all, there is a witch and a vampire who also scare
very easily in the scary and creepy house that monsters built.
Author Steve Metzger has
created a hilariously ironic Halloween tale where the monsters are not scary at
all. This story builds and builds as the monster conundrum unfolds. It’s helped
along by rising rhyme which makes the story even more hilarious and fun.
Beginner readers as well as little listeners will be tickled as they see for
themselves, with colorful illustrations by Jared Lee, that monsters are afraid
of some of the silliest things. Parents and teachers can use this as a tool to
open a discussion about being afraid.
