Review:
Winter is around the corner
and before the frost comes Jared has volunteered to help pick pumpkins. The more
he finds the more the local soup kitchen will receive. By helping the soup
kitchen, Jared learned they will be taking part in tikkun olam, which is
repairing the world. Jared’s experience was that he donated his idea of a
perfect pumpkin for decoration, a small one for soup and a mushy one would be
perfect for compost. He managed to salvage some seeds from it.
Sukkot is the Jewish harvest
holiday that commemorates the forty years the Israelites wandered in the desert
and lived in temporary shelters. Author Laya Steinberg and illustrator Colleen
Madden have created a delightful story full of colorful pictures that will
engage children to be mindful of those who have less and to want to help within
their own community.
