Review:

Fact cards are always handy to have around for quick reference and ease of learning. The Smithsonian has created a wonderful box with over 275 fact cards with 16 interesting categories. Curious learners can discover information about outer space, planet earth, dinosaurs, food, biomes and ecosystems and underwater animals to name of few. This great educational tool is specifically geared towards grades 2-3.

Each category is shown on tabs for the cards. The Outer Space cards have colorful pictures on the front and when the card is flipped over it will show more pictures and a few facts about the topic. For example: the Galaxy card shows a vibrant colorful picture on the front and on the back there is a picture of a spiral, barred spiral and elliptical. The fact reads “The dust, gas, and billions of stars in a galaxy are all held together by the pull of gravity. Galaxies come in four shapes: spiral, elliptical, lenticular, and irregular. We live in the Milky Way, a spiral galaxy.”  The cards referencing the U.S. Presidents is a larger section than the others. Here learners will find pictures and information about the first 44 presidents. World Wonders is another category readers will find interesting. Information about the Colosseum, Easter Island, Taj Mahal, and the Great Barrier Reef. The tab covering Biomes and Ecosystems will teach readers about the Sahara Desert and how temperatures during December to February at night can plunge to below freezing. This category will also cover oceans, fresh water and the Amazon rain forest.

This handy portable tool would be a great addition to any home or school. There is just enough information on these cards to peak curiosity for further learning or as a quick reference to answer a basic question. Parents and teachers will approve and even enjoy this little box of information. Colorful photography and vibrant illustrations make this a fun tool for children and adults.
