The Creeping
Alexandra Sirowy
If you prefer a story that
stands up to its name then you will love this eerie tale. Two six year old best
friends, Jeanie and Stella, go into the woods pretending to slay monsters. But
something awful happened and Stella was the only one to come out of the woods
alive. Now, eleven years later, Stella is considered to be the lucky one. She
can’t remember much about that tormenting day. Because there is such a mystery
that surrounds what really happened to Jeanie this even has created an ironic
popularity around Stella. She is bright, beautiful and has lots of friends. On
the other hand, Stella is bitter because she is constantly dancing around her
past. Her plan is to leave everything behind after graduation.
At a party on the anniversary
of Jeanie’s disappearance a body is found. A killer is back targeting young
girls. This girl resembled Jeanie. She had red hair and fair skin just like
Jeanie. Stella later learns, from an old creepy woman who lives in the woods,
that a little red haired girl had been killed when she was young too. Is
someone back to get Stella and to finish what was started eleven years ago or
will Stella and her friends solve the mystery once and for all so they can go
on with their lives?
Author Alexandra Sirowy has
done an excellent job weaving a story that feels truly believable. The
backstory of the characters adds to the creep factor and eerie feeling surround
the town and the main character. A fast paced page turner is what young readers
will find here. Vivid imagery lead the reader on a journey of surprise twists
and turns as the story unfolds. Parents and teachers will approve of this
exhilarating read.
