Review:
Acadia is a very curious
young girl who happens to love science. When she explores her world she often
notices changes and wants to know why these changes have occurred. In one
instance she notices lots of trash in a pond that is effecting the frogs that
live there. She logs her findings in a journal and even writes to her local
council person. When studying why the leaves change she notes new words that
she’s learned and even tackles drawing and identifying the various types of
trees and their leaves. In her germ experiment Acadia wonders how effective
washing her hands are. She does research, has a hypothesis and a list of
procedures for her subject. There are so many questions and topics to learn
about.
Author Katie Coppens has
created a unique way of introducing young readers to a STEM environment for
learning. Simple questions with simple research tactics will help readers
better understand how science works and how easily they will learn how to
perform an experiment, how to long information in a journal and where to find
more resources for study. Parents and teachers can use this as a guide to teach
science and get readers engaged.
