Review:
Sasha loves to shoot hoops
and ride her bicycle in her cool pink high-top shoes. After a busy day of play
she likes to visit her Nana in the kitchen to receive a delicious chocolate
chip cookie. But on this particular day her mom tells her that Nana isn’t
feeling well because she’s been diagnosed with diabetes. Moving forward Nana
will have to eat healthy and exercise. In
order to help her, Sasha dips into her piggy bank to surprise her Nana with
something from the mall. When she returns Nana is in the kitchen with some
freshly baked sugar-free zucchini bread. Sasha likes it. Her surprise was pink
high-top shoes and Nana’s bike all cleaned up. Do you think that Sasha and Nana
will be able to ride bikes and shoot hoops together?
This simple read with
colorful illustrations is perfect for educating beginner readers about
diabetes. Parents, teachers and
caregivers can prepare the recipe in the back of the book and discuss what
types of exercise they can do together and create a list of healthy foods.
