About Passover (Fri, Apr 19, 2019 – Sat, Apr 27, 2019)
“Passover is a week-long holiday,
celebrated in the spring, when the Jewish people remember the biblical exodus
from Egyptian slavery. It is ushered in with a seder, a festive meal of
prayers, readings, songs, and the tasting of symbolic foods.”
Review:
This is Marcy’s year to ask
The Four Questions. She can now read and is very excited, but her brother Jake
fears she will mess it up. Marcy is not worried she asks questions all of the
time. Her most recent was, “Can I have a pet elephant?” Her mom asked if she
could help her prepare, but Marcy stated she didn’t need any help, except for
which dress she should wear. At the table, it was time for Marcy to shine, but
she didn’t ask the questions from the Haggadah. What questions do you think she
asked, and did she get the answers?
This colorfully illustrated
story is fun and also shares the culture and history of the Jewish people and
why Passover is so important. Beginner readers will find the sentences easy to
navigate and read. Teachers, parents and caregivers can use this as a way to
teach Passover, Jewish history and culture and also to ask listeners to share some
of their own family history and culture.
