Review:

Thank You Omu is the same as saying queen in Nigerian. For author Oge Mora it is the same as saying grandma. This heartfelt story is about friendship and good food.

In one tall apartment building Omu was diligently working on her pot of stew for dinner. The delicious smell drifted out the window and into the street. It wasn’t long before random people began to knock on her door. A cab driver, shop owner, doctor, actor, dancer and even a baker were some of the few who stopped by. The smell was so mouth watering they had to ask for a taste. All throughout the day Omu shared her delicious stew. When it was time for dinner, she realized she had no more stew for herself. There was a knock at the door. What do you think happened next?

This lovely story of food and friends is illustrated with paint and collages. Young readers can flip through these pages to find all sorts of fun recognizable objects. Beginners will be able to easily navigate through the simple sentence structures. This would be a great read-a-loud for any classroom. It’s also a great way to share stories about favorite foods and gatherings with friends and family.
