Review:

This easy to navigate book takes readers through the alphabet with ease and plenty of inspiration. The letter A, Anthem, sets the tone of hope. By the time readers get to the letter D, Diaspora, they see how Africa was no longer the home of so many. But, during the renaissance, H for Harlem, readers see how blacks thrived and had a voice. The letter Z, Zenith, brings closure of making it to the mountain top.

This beautifully illustrated story depicts a somewhat blast from the past with art but brought forward with positive emotion and people from the present who are young and old. Sharing a brief but powerful history, this story offers truths that are easy to absorb and comprehend by young readers.

This book plants the seeds of where black people have been and where they can go. The battle has not been won but with hope black people will get there. The front and back pages share other resources for more learning in addition to more information regarding each letter and the accomplished people it represents.
