Review:

There are plenty of reimagined stories of old Saint Nick. This story stems from a northern folktale that will inspire young readers and offers a tale of hope and kindness.

A young boy and his family tend to their deer. As winter settles in they prepare their lodge for the cold dark nights ahead. It was the young boys responsibility to care for the deer. He didn’t like the darkness and one night while checking on the deer he discovered they were gone. In his search he stumbled into a timeless world of summer inhabited by strange creatures. They told him he couldn’t leave or their worlds would cease to exist. He was allowed to check on his family and leave them gifts once each winter. As time passed, do you think he would be allowed to return to his family forever?

This story is a perfect tale to share during the holidays or on a chilly night by a fire. The illustrated contrasts of colors for winter and summer will ignite emotion in the reader. Parents and teachers can share this story with young listeners to engage in conversations of Santa Clause and his reindeer.
