Review:
The real life story, behind
the scenes, is about a young girl named Marie van Goethe and the artist who
created a life like sculpture of her is Edgar Degas. Marie was the daughter of
a laundress and in the 1800’s it was common for young girls to be dancers to
earn money for their families. As it turned out, Marie was very poised and a
wonderful dancer. This caught the eye of Degas and she became one of his most
inspiring models. Degas added fabric, a wig and other accessories to bring the
sculpture to life. This famous sculpter can be seen in museums today.
This lovely story depicts life in the 1800’s and allows children to see that if you dream it they can become it. This story also shares illustrations and art work that is relevant in today’s world. Young readers will find that the sentence structure is easy to navigate. Parents and teachers can use this as a tool to teach history, art, dance and more. More bonus information can be found in the back pages.
