Review:

Billy McGill liked living alone on a hill. The peace and quiet was unlike the noise of the town. But one day he heard the squeak of a mouse. To remedy the situation he got a cat. To get rid of the cat he got a dog, then a bear and so on and so forth. Somewhere along the way a tiger, veterinarian and a hairdresser with a baby ended up at his house on the hill. At his wits end on a stormy night, Billy found a different hill. When a floating red balloon was seen, things drastically changed for Billy. What do you imagine happened?

Author Barry Falls has created a hilarious story with tongue twisting rhyme. Simple sentence structure along with big brightly colored illustrations makes this story fun and engaging. Parents and teachers will have a lot of fun reading this aloud. Young listeners can discuss what they would have done under similar circumstances and why it isn’t fun to be alone.
