Review:
When you think about fighting for human rights do you think of violence to get change? Wars have been fought but were they won when you consider the loss of life?
The Civil Rights movement was not led by politicians or soldiers. The violence during this time was not from the activists but from those who didn’t support their cause. The Nineteenth amendement was empowered by mostly non-violent women. In each of these major events nonviolent activism won for their cause. “Nonviolent actvists are fighters who directly challenge their opponents only the wars they wage look a lot different than the ones that take place on a military battle.”
Inside these pages readers of all ages will learn about and be inspired by the leaders of nonviolent activism. Leaders like Gandhi, Alice Paul, Martin Luther King Jr., Cesar Chavez, Vaclav Havel and Greta Thunberg. Since these activists there have been plenty more battles in the efforts to support gay rights, police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movements.
Young readers can learn
about the history of these causes and how nonviolent activism can continue to
prevail and offer change. Parents and teachers can use this as a tool to teach
history, civil rights, and how to make political change.
