Review:

Bert was a Birch tree who grew in a crack in the sidewalk on a Brooklyn Street. He was skinnier than the other trees on the block and they let him know it often. They teased him that he would snap at the slightest gust of wind, his branches and leaves would never shade young children from the sun and that his branches would not be strong enough for kids to climb on. And so, Bert drooped and wondered if the other large trees were right. That is until one day a strong wind blew through the city. Bert swayed and tilted. He heard loud cracking sounds around him. What do you think happened to all the other trees on the street?

Author Bob Zaslow better known as “Mr. Z” has created a story that shows young readers that they should be strong with confidence and that there is more to them that what people may see or know about them. Parents and teachers can use this book as a guide to overcome bullying and to have self-confidence.
