Review:

Kayla was a young confident girl. In class the teacher asked if a whale was a fish or mammal. Kayla was confident the whale was a fish and quickly raised her hand. She was wrong and a classmate named Gabriella had no problem laughing at Kayla. Gabriella was sent to detention and Kayla just stopped talking. She had lost her confidence and hadn’t talked for three days. Her parents took her to see the doctor who couldn’t help her. When her grandmother visited, she told her a story about herself and how she hadn’t spoke for five days. How do you think Kayla responded?

Author Bob Zaslow better known as “Mr. Z” has created a relevant story that was inspired by an actual incident in one of his classrooms. Parents and teachers can use this to discuss confidence and how being wrong can be a learning experience. This could also be an opportunity to discuss bullying.
