Review:

Mendel’s favorite holiday is Hanukkah. The only problem is he seems to mess things up. One time he made latkes but instead of mostly potatoes his were mostly onions. Another time instead of putting candles in the menorah he accidentally put sparklers. Another time he left a tray of jelly donuts on Rabbi Klein’s chair.

In spite of all of that Rabbi Klein gave Mendel the biggest responsibility of all. He gave him the keys to the Mitzvah Mobile so that he could ride around town spreading the word of the big Hanukkah bash. At first, it was easy and fun for him to drive around with the music playing as he waved to the people on the street. Unfortunately, Mendel didn’t see the upcoming bridge. What do you think happened?

This delightful story of Jewish culture is a fast and easy read. Colorful illustrations bring the story to life. The back pages share the history of Hanukkah, games kids can play, and a glossary. Parents and teachers can use this as a tool to teach kids about Hanukkah and how mistakes can be forgiven.
