Review:

Nikki Brandt, a Mohawk native, went to the local Strawberry Festival every year. This year was different when she encountered a strange woman who turned out to be a seer. In conversation with her, Nikki learned that she must help the polar bears. With the help of a magic carved polar bear named Followme, she was gifted by the seer, her journey began.

Nikki would need a little bit more help to save the polar bears. Followme presented her with two orenda from the Creator. One allowed her to talk with the animals and the other allowed her to fly. With the help of a falcon and Windy, the wind, Nikki’s first attempt was a success. In order to get to the polar bears, she would have to take a journey through the air.

Author Margaret Pollock has created a delightful story that readers can learn about polar bears and how their world is disappearing due to the ice melting in the artic as a result of global warming. Parents and teachers can use this as a read-a-loud tool to teach about the ice age, polar bears, and have conversations about global warming and what they can do to help.
