“During the summer of 2018, The Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and the City of Chicago celebrated the themes of access and inclusion by presenting fifty-one specially decorated model lighthouses along Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. A number of them were painted by artists with visual and physical disabilities.

Susan and Larry Broutman sponsored one of the lighthouses, and Rich Green embellished it with illustrations created for this book. Many families whose children appear in our pages came to see their images on Michigan Avenue, The Magnificent Mile.”

Review:

What if a child’s imagination allowed them to become apart of some of the most memorable children’s stories, nursery rhymes and even some famous art? In this very visual guide kids can let their imaginations soar. That’s the whole point to this book. Young readers will find kids just like them in the middle of comics, traveling down the yellow brick road as Dorothy, and even asleep in a bed as Goldilocks. Parents, teachers, and caregivers can share these fun stories and nursery rhymes with children.

If you are a fan of famous works of art or some of the fantastic art displays found around the city of Chicago, you will love looking at the visual attractions with kids being the focus of attention. A young girl chases a leopard at the Millennium Park, and another walks a porcupine and skunk by the Chicago Cultural Center. A young boy sits next to the men in the painting Breaking Home Ties by Norman Rockwell. A young girl appears in the famous American gothic painting by Grant Wood. This amazing book shines a spotlight on kids who are special, diverse and unique.
